Kuwait is a constitutional monarchy emirate with democratic parliamentary system, it is manifested in its National Assembly which has legislative power. Kuwait is located in the northeast of the Arabian Gulf, it is bounded on the northwest by the Republic of Iraq and on the south by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Kuwait was formerly known as "Kutu" (KUT) which means a small castle (it was built near the coast). On January 29, 2006, Sheikh Sabah Ahmed Sabah became the Emir of Kuwait, who was sworn in on January 29 of the same year and appointed Sheikh Navajo Ahmed Sabah as the crown prince.


Kuwait City is the political and economic capital of Kuwait as well asthe seat of government and its departments and major bank headquarters, it is also thesite of Kuwait stock exchange market. Kuwait is a founding member of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), it is also a member of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC).In 1961 and 1963, it became a member of the League of Arab States and the United Nationsrespectively. In addition,Kuwaitis also a member of many international organizations.


In the aspect of economy, Kuwait is the important petroleum producing and exporting country. Its petroleum reserves rank fifth in the world and the proved petroleum reserves accounts for about 10% of the world. The export of petroleum and its auxiliary products takes up about 95% amount of exports of the country,it becomes 80% income resources of the government. Kuwait is a high-income country categorized by the World Bank, this economic capability comes from a strong Gross National Product. In 2015, Kuwait’s per capita Gross National Product was approximately USD 29,800, it ranks third in the Arab countries and nineteenth in the world.


Kuwait is a developed country in many areas, it possesses many modern distinctive architectures, modern skyscrapers and towers. Its capital is a modern city surrounded by high buildings. There is a Liberation Tower in the center of Kuwait City which was built in 1996, it was the fifth tallest buildings in the world at that time.


In the aspect of culture, Kuwait has many domestic and foreign institutions of higher education, it also has a lot of large scale libraries such as Kuwaiti National Library, National Public Library, Central library of Arabic poetry and Sheikh Jabbar Ahmed Cultural Center, etc. Kuwait Theater’s activities is the earliest cultural event of the Gulf countries, it can be traced back to the year of 1922, however, drama was considered as the most prominent cultural show in Kuwait. Besides, there are many other forms of art such as literature, poetry, music and art.


At the same time, Kuwait has also held lots of important exhibitions, such as Kuwait International Book Fair which was known as the second largest exhibitions in Arab countries,its first exhibition can be traced back to November 1975; The Middle East International Invention Exhibition was regarded as the best invention exhibition in the world; During the period of January 17 to 20, 2018, Kuwait will hold the Air Show.


Kuwait has been known for its business since ancient times. Most people collected pearls andengaged in trade at sea between Asia, the Arabian Peninsula and Africa since the establishment of the country.
